IICA-GTZ Project on Corporate Social Responsibility

This project is an Indo-German co-operation being implemented by IICA and GTZ, respectively. This is also known as IICA-GTZ Initiative in CSR and has about four years tenure. Presently, fostering of sustainable business viewed as its motivational factor. The objective is to define a CSR model in a manner it is relevant to Indian context. Several activities, including studies are planned under the Project. An Expert Group of representatives from select organizations has also been constituted. A core team of IICA and GTZ to carry out the activities with the involvement of GRI has been set up. A committee for drafting of voluntary guidelines has also been appointed. Amongst a wide range of topics, energy efficiency, environment, social empowerment, public health and education have been identified as areas of focus. Some of the ongoing studies are addressing CSR as an avenue of corporate responsibility.

CSR as a component of Corporate Governance of State Owned Enterprises

A workshop on Corporate Governance for State Owned Enterprises was conducted, wherein the day long discussions with middle and senior management personnel from select state owned enterprises (SOEs) included an involved discussion of whether the corporate social responsibility be made a sole prerogative of the private sector businesses and the manner in which SOEs, who have distinct social objectives, can broad base their CSR activities.
