Corporate Governance

Good Corporate Governance ensures that the business environment is fair and transparent
and that companies can be held accountable for their actions. It also provides better
access to capital and aids growth. The IICA Forum on Corporate Governance encourages
a healthy and vibrant debate on good Corporate Governance.
In India the Companies Act 1956 lays down the essential requirements of Corporate
Governance that are to be complied with as a statutory duty. Principles of Corporate
Governance are also included under the Listing Agreement for public listed companies.
The IICA “Forum on Corporate Governance” views Corporate Governance not only as
a tool for inclusive social development but also as a business case for the Companies
following it in spirits. It aims to help business entities to integrate Good Corporate
Governance practices voluntarily as it is beneficial to their business and not merely
as an obligation under Listing Agreement. The Forum had its first meeting on 10th
August 2009 wherein the importance of “Responsible Corporate Governance” was discussed.
Corporate Governance in Public Sector Enterprises was the theme for a Workshop organized
by the IICA on 18th December, 2009.
